Epic Moments In Live Rock History

By christina · On January 11, 2016

The true test of a real rock band is how they perform live. In In a new regular feature for The Void, we scour YouTube for the most spectacular live concerts for you to irritate your neighbours with or listen to in headphones at work.

This week’s featured bands include the man, the myth, the rock and roll outlaw Lemmy Kilmister and Motorhead live at Hellfest. Recorded less than a year ago, at least we can rest assured Lemmy rocked out hard to the very end.

Guns ‘N’ Roses were at their messy best rocking this show at The Ritz in ’88. Just a year after Appetite For Destruction, their spectacular debut and arguably the most perfect rock record in history, witness the magic of the classic lineup – the intensity, the brutality, the young and dangerous joy of being alive, AND playing some of the sickest rock and roll songs ever made.

Guns ‘N’ Roses At Eastern Creek & Calder Park 1993
Radio Birdman Live At The Marryatville Hotel

Beloved by the punk rock community and name-checked as an influence for decades, Radio Birdman are an Australian punk rock band formed in Sydney in 1974 that will blow your mind. When they broke up just four short years into their career, a gaping hole was left in the Sydney rock and roll scene and countless bands over the last few decades have name-checked these guys as reference points. Reuniting for the 1996 Big Day Out tour and playing to rabid crowds in Australia and around the world, if you ever get a chance to see these guys in the flesh, jump at it. Evidence below.

Karnivool are one of those bands who has slowly built up an incredible cult following and their emotive, deep, fiery and passionate live shows that have taken them around the country and around the world. It’s delicious, heavy, All-Australian prog-rock magic.

Australian legends AC/DC need no introduction. This show back in 2001 captures the undeniable energy of one of Australia’s most freaking fantastic rock bands. Enjoy!
