Skarlett Saramore, the killer drummer for new all-girl Sydney band Rackett drops by The Void to chat to host Christina Rowatt about starting Rackett, how her singer approached her (it involves a bra with laser boobs), starting on MySpace and creating a concert series that used rock and roll to take on mental health issues, growing up, reading books, weed, Joe Rogan, Bernie Sanders, the female musician community in Australia and around the world, what needs to be overcome (even when you’ve played drums onstage since the age of thirteen) and and much, more in our super chill and relaxed “Riffing with Christina.” The show kicks off with a 30 second sample of Rackett live, slaying the shit out of a mid-week show at legendary rock bar Frankie’s Pizza by The Slice.
Skarlett on starting Rackett:
“I’ve known Bec the singer for bloody ages. I think the first album launch that my old band, Fait Accompli had, they were the openers and they’d just got together, Bec and Ben. Before I’d even met this girl, she came up to me with this handmade bra with sequins with lightning bolts on the tits. But it had drumstick holders in the back of the bra. I hadn’t even met this girl and I was like, instantly, I have to know you [laughs]. She really wanted a drummer and it was really cool how it all came together. It’s nice to find other people, especially females, in this industry, who dedicate their heart and soul to music and feel the same way as me. It’s really refreshing.”
