Amyl and the Sniffers Interview 2017: Seventies, Solvents, Sharpies, AC/DC and Sunbury ’73

Amyl and the Sniffers are a heady cocktail of garage punk with filthy riffs and sick songs, and tough frontwoman Amy Louise breaks hearts left and right with her electric stage presence. These legends hung out backstage before their first Cherry Rock show, an annual laneway  festival celebrated by Melbourne’s best rock dive bar.

If the Amyl and the Sniffers guys could be transported anywhere, any place in time it would be Sunbury Festival, 1973. “In 1974 everyone booed Queen off stage and Maida Lake came on and everyone went real hard for the Melbourne band so good on them, supporting the local scene. And then in 1975 I heard the roadies of Deep Purple tried to beat up AC/DC and they were asking people from the crowd to help them out.
